I have a Walnut veneer desk where Underneath the central drawer is marked “Sligh Furniture” then below it Sligh-Lowery Furniture Company”. There is a date stamp “Oct. 14, 1956” and a big number stamp “4044”. I’m assuming production date and model number. It has 3 drawers on the right and on the left it is one large cabinet with a swing out desktop. The front has two built in shelves. I am getting it refinished but unfortunately the desk apparatus which has a unique spring mechanism is not reparable. Was just trying to find out more about this desk and if there was any way to fix the swing out desktop mechanism. Thanks

I am not finding any information about this mechanism on-line. It may not be distinct to Sligh but could not find it searching both with and without Sligh in the search. You might look the mechanism over carefully for any identifying marks, in particular, patent information.

Here's your desk from a 1960 catalog. And yes, those numbers would be the production date and model. If the typewriter shelf mechanism is not reparable your best bet might be to find another Sligh desk (there are many still out there) you could salvage a mechanism from. Desks in rough shape can usually be had around $100.
