I love the Native American painting!

 

wowzas! If it weren’t for the big damn piece of plate glass in the frame I’d list a lot more of it. I hate shipping them when they are over 8x10 or so. Sounds like your stack is progressing nicely.

 

No great shakes but a few to show. Purchased due to their cheap prices as much as for any other reason. First two for the frames. Both are old, as are the prints. Bought together at Goodwill so guessing from the same donation. Look like the kind of art presentations put together for resale.

Medium sized with grain-painted frame. Mat is new. $6.00.


Large size. Print has some water damage at the bottom. $5.00

This medium sized watercolor was from an out of town thrift I visited last week. Medium sized and probably not terribly old. Unsigned and I opened the back and found nothing. Reasonably accomplished. $4.00.

 

The two Victorian, I think, frames were worth the price of admission for sure.

 

Like the watercolor. Done with a great deal of economy.

Crop the stains out and place it in another frame.

 

Here are a few paintings I found recently at the thrift store.

A little miniature with purple iris. Only 80 cents!
How could I leave it there? Signature partially hidden by the frame. It says E.B. '75

And this is a student piece, but I liked it. Oils.
It's larger, 16x20"

 

Pencil and ink sketch by what was probably a talented amateur. Call it 12x14 inches. Signed LA Schneider 1918 in itty bitty writing, lower right. Water damaged, but she was only $2.

 

Might have been from a life drawing class. She's rather scantily clad but doesn't seemed designed to titillate.

The hands are wrong, but it could be the artist was a teenager.

 

Definitely looks like a student to me. The mark making is heavy and contrast is too strong. Looks like a tracing or copy of a photograph.

 

THat's what I was thinking. Sunday painter stuff, but better than I can do.

 

They got the balance so nice and right on her face though. Typical artist.... Makes a lovely face, but ugh hands and feet are hard.

 

I've had this for years. I got it at the Goodwill Outlet / "bins", actually, where you pay 1.29 / pound, so probably less than a $1.

I made a quick and ugly frame, but lately the painting is growing on me and I'm thinking of getting a nicer frame.

There seems to be slight damage along the outer-most margins, suggesting that it was previously framed.

I'd love to hear what you all think before I do so. Is this perhaps by a professional artist? No name, no marks. 14" x 18"

 

That's not the work of an amateur. And clever you re frame; it suits the work quite well.

not only is the frame not ugly...but it compliments the work......by staying out of it's way....while doing it's job !!

 

It's really strange not to sign a work of this quality and effort. The second to last image almost looks like it has a signature in the reeds in darker brown. But maybe that's just my expectation. Artists don't usually spend the considerable time this would have taken, and not marked it in some way.

 

I thought that too.
