I am up to about 85 pieces now. Not including the 6 or 8 pieces that were from my Great grandmothers original pieces she brought from Moundsville when she moved to California in 1915. My Dad Keeps trying to give them to me every time I see him. He collected Fostoria American for 25 years and at one time had over 850 pieces. I can remember one Christmas the table was set for 14 people, and it was all American Fostoria
I guess it is something that when you start you can't stop lol.

Everything you see was purchased at yard sales, thrift stores, and estate sales. I have not paid more than 3 or 4 dollars for any piece. The 13 8 1/2" plates on the right were .69 cents each af Goodwill.

One of the first auctions i attended was selling a Huge collection of Fostoria American, not much else in the sale. The son in law was the executor of the estate and I chatted with him awhile. The couple had American stored everywhere and had even dedicated 2 spare bedrooms for display cabinets, tables and shelves. This was the time when American was still fairly valuable.

The collection included 5 complete punch bowl sets, all of the vases, dinnerware and stemware, many of the rare pieces. It was just massive. The son in law was referring to it as "stuff" "clutter" "junk" etc. so I told him I would see him at the end of the auction to see if he changed his mind. Well, the collection brought thousands and he was stunned! I thought his reaction was funny and fairly predictable.

It's a beautiful pattern and the most successful for Fostoria. I hope it's around for a lot longer.

as a collector of EAPG cake stands, Fostoria's 'American' becomes complicated. I have what I think are early productions of both the square and round versions. Later pieces were glued pedestal to plate. Some production with Fostoria molds was continued by Lancaster Colony upon closing of the Fostoria factory c1983. Also, the round stands have recently been reproduced in lead crystal by Godinger, called 'Radiance' and as of 2016 Mosser Glass introduced a punch set including bowl, stand, under-plate and cups in the 'American' pattern but have named it "Katherine". Then add to that the confusion with Hazel-Atlas 'Early American' and Indiana Glass 'White Hall'.

Thank you all very much for your interest.
I have been well trained on this pattern and I know how to tell it from the reproductions. There are several ways to tell them apart.

Do you have any banana split dishes? I got one in a box lot some years ago, almost threw it away because it was badly chipped. I think it brought around $700 on ebay, even with the damage.

I have always had good luck selling Fostoria American & am actually selling some pieces right now.

There are several pieces I would love to find & the banana split dish is one of them.

The best piece I ever sold was a cologne bottle. :D:D:D

Gasp! I love it in the holder. I have one just like it in amber. It's now in my basement. I purchased 2 for $20, sold one for great money. The 2nd one has some residue / sickness and would have to be professionally cleaned. My bottle cleaner left for Washington state several years ago. He used to clean bottles for about $20.

I also sold a matching square puff box in its holder back in 2017. The glass had damage but the metal portion was in good condition. I got it on a table lot with many other items for a total of $44.00 & sold that piece for $127.50.:smuggrin:

I actually bought the bottle off eBay back in 2020 for $24.98 from someone who did not know what it was. I sold it about 3 weeks later correctly ID'd for $135.00. :smug::smug:

The amber color is very rare, only made between 1927-1930, according to my research. The bottle that I sold had tiny damage but no residue and it sold for $150 if I recall correctly. The 2nd bottle sold for $135 but the buyer returned it because it couldn't be cleaned with a denture tablet. I stated in the listing that it would have to be professionally cleaned, but you know how buyers can be. Its only damage was a nick on the bottom of the stopper so if I can get it cleaned, it would be worth much more. I've just been lazy, but I think there is a glass cleaner over by Springfield and I could ship it to him. One of these days . . . .

Several pieces were made in different colors.
Amber, canary, and green are the hardest to find in the wild.
