Rosary -- Age? Glass beads.

I guess rosaries are a kind of jewelry. I sort of inherited this rosary from a friend who passed away from pancreatic cancer a few years ago. I'm rather curious to know if anyone has a guess to the approximate age, and the glass beads -- likely Czech The medallion looks to be pressed copper and the crucifix I'm guessing is nickel.

 

I've found similar ones. They're not new, but.... 50s? 60s?

 

I was thinking the same which would fit in with her receiving it when young. Do Roman Catholics give rosaries at confirmation or baptism?

 

Both, I think. THey're also gifted at other times if someone happens to find a good one. I even made one once, when a friend requested it. I made him a hand-knotted and wooden one to hang in his car.

 

You get them for first communion and confirmation. Not typically baptism, as the baby can’t use them. Also, sometimes if you start catechism classes.

That one does look Czech.

 

Yes and if someone visited a shrine, they'd bring back Rosaries from the shrine. Some friend of my Aunt visited Lourdes so when I was 11 I got one with holy water inside the beads and a figure of Our Lady of Lourdes inside the centerpiece.
