That wardrobe is really priced to sell, even in this condition. Think the scratches could be made to look significantly better with a bit of work. If I ran across this, I would be tempted to buy. I am a sucker for large expanses of exotic veneer..... LOL!

Had a similar vintage wardrobe at our thrift not too long ago. Sat for a long time and probably got down to this price range before selling. It was not nearly as attractive as this one and it had a huge gouge across the front that there was no fixing.

 

With a big gouge, all you can do is apply paint and use the yuck as part of a hand-painted design. My Ill Will is small enough to not sell much furniture. The ReStore however does land office business.

 

Yes, I was tempted for sure, but I'm short on space and long on projects. Plus, as we've discussed previously, the market for wardrobes is pretty cold these days, especially here in Texas where most houses and apartments have sizeable closets. Back in the 80's and 90's people would buy these and convert them to entertainment cabinets, but flat screens killed that.

 

Haven't seen too much out there lately, other than single dining chairs and Victorian rockers. None were exceptional values or terribly interesting. There was a set of 4 MCM chairs for $24.00 but they were pretty rough and needed upholstery to boot. I did see these two worth photographing for you.

This double spool bed was $40.00. One rail has a repair but looks like they did a decent, albeit not so pretty, job. Just don't see a lot of spool beds these days.


First Hoosier cabinet I have seen in a long time. Nice older oak example in a smallish size. Missing its tambour but, otherwise, in pretty good condition. Top damage was superficial and would clean up pretty easily. Missing knobs were in the drawer. Pretty good buy at $50.00. Actually convinced a dealer friend of mine to buy for her shop. Even if it doesn't sell right away, it will be great for display of kitchen items.

 

That hoosier cabinet has my name all over it. If only I had the room in my tiny kitchen.

Drop leaf will look good with other knobs

 

Just one piece to show but it is a monster. At about 7' long, I am sure this weighs a ton. They priced it at $275.00 so bet they have it awhile. Really in pretty good condition other than a chunk of one foot missing. Didn't look to see if it might be tucked in a drawer.

 

They're going to need a buyer with a skid loader to get it out of there.

 

That's a great price look at what people pay 275 for in modern furniture doesn't look nearly as good nor is it likely to be made of timber like that

 

Much to my surprise, this has already sold. I think they have had better pieces at similar price points sit for weeks.

In the greater scheme of things, you are correct. I just know how cheap people around here are and what little demand there is for brown furniture. Hate to think this will end up under a paint brush but wouldn't be surprised.

 

I have to admit I like the design more than the colour...
I have some brown Victorian pieces of a similar colour but too much can be too heavy

 

A few things seen in the wild this week. I did not buy any of them.

This Eastlake parlor table was maybe a little pricey at $60.00 but has good potential. I have tweaked the photo to show off the base. The top has been partially sanded, as someone had started to refinish. Would be an easy project.


This dovetailed primitive trunk is $30.00. Still had the original strap hinges inside. A bit rough but wouldn't take too much work to make presentable.


Here is a nice maple dresser with really nothing wrong. A decent buy at $50.00.


Pretty nice table and chair set for $130.00.


Think this was the bargain of the day. The small size of this school desk makes it worth considering. Priced at only $30.00.

 

The Eastlake table probably had a marble top originally. They got broken early and often. Around here the desk wouldn't sell at any price, at least not for a while. They don't move now that lockdown is well and truly over.

 

I don't think this one had a marble top the way the top is beveled. Did not look like a replacement top but anything is possible. The base is nice enough to have had a marble top. The desk would sell here due to its relatively small size (Only about 4' long). It would not bring big bucks but certainly more than $30.00 in a shop. Being a university town, there is some demand for desks here.

 

Smaller college apartments? Or college kid bedrooms. I would make sense to use a small desk.

 

I like the eastlake parlor table style but with the legs carved on all sides.
I like tables with lots going on underneath but I prefer when they are formed rounded on all sides not just cut out.
I like the casters.
Still a great price though.

 

Trunks! Seen at a Habitat for Humanity Re-Store in a town about an hour from home. All were priced either $25.00 or $30.00 with discounts based on tag colors.

 

if I were there...I'd snap up the 4 with slats.....and use them as part of my Pirate theme Halloween display ........

a sight less expensive that buying props at the local hardware store...

and after...I could sell em off to designers and decorators who use this stuff for upscale clients !!

The flat-topped ones are easier to move in more ways than one. People use them for tables etc. Add a glass top and off they go.
