Featured Silver folks,am I Hanau ?

Hi all. Today I found a piece of silver (1st in a while) at the hoodwill. I almost didnt pick it up because that one especially isnt known to let anything silver slip thru,but I did and immediately thought "Hmmm" . the weight,the feel and yes even the smell gave me pause. It was in my wheelhouse, $1.99, so I took the plunge ! I guessed right ,its 800 silver,though I had to polish the dickens out of it before I saw the mark. No other hallmarks,just .800 and Germany. Any input is always appreciated.

 

What a lucky find! I'm jealous. Looks like it's worth a couple hundred? Comparables place it at late 19th/early20th but idk enough about silver objects to confirm. Every time I write off a thrift location as not that great, there's always the one time that I found something great that pulls me back in! Now you're going to have to put this one back in rotation!

 

Hanau typically distinguishes itself with a plethora of important looking pseudomarks. Yours seems marked very honestly.

Oh gosh,sorry ! Roughly 6 3/4 by 6 3/4 and an inch high. I suck at measuring so it is roughly !

 

I know,right ?!? Dont you hate that ?!? Its like "No ! You suck! I hate you! "

(And I empathize re: the measuring problem. I once lost a splendid job in a framing gallery because 1) I cannot measure anything correctly, and 2) I have an innate fear of glass. )

On the other hand, I can persuade a buyer to upgrade a frame when the artwork calls for it; three or four or eight times if necessary.

 

LOL! I swear I think its triggering for me cause my dad was an absolute stickler for exact measurements and I NEVER got it right ! i developed a phobia !

 

Now you know why I have a piece of measuring tape literally glued to the front edge of my desk!
