    HAHAHAA!! (((Gila)))

I used to do commercial art (long ago) but I never did a mural.
Doing portraits and advertising design was difficult enough!
We used to call it "adveritzing" haha!

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

Once upon a time, an Italian family wanted a portrait of the founder father (passed away by this time) posing in an old-Sicily vineyard scene. Obviously, all I would have would be photographs to do the likeness. The relatives couldn't agree on which photo looked most like the man, and by the time I got a satisfactory face crafted, I was ready to tear my hair out, along with everybody else's.
    Adveritzing! I like that!

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

    I wish!
But I sell by the product, not the hours... it's the custom here. People expect a firm price quotation. Sometimes if it's a very complicated mural, I'll give them an estimate within a certain range, as with the portrait, and you better believe I asked for the upper figure!
The boob issue, sadly, was a firm quote, so... I had to endure it with no extra charge. In the future, I'll remember that cleavage is divisive! Pun attempted!

Oh! That was a good one though!!! Proud of you for that. :)

I suggest you explain at first that you'll gladly make 1 or 2 modifications but after that.... $50 per hour or whatever you personally think.
Same problem in the sign industry and biz with similar issues. Such people need to be trained that talent and time is money.

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

    Well, I absolutely agree!
    But I'm not very assertive!
And if somebody gets snippy with me I tend to get mad and start crying.
    But I know you're right.
My ol' man has wanted me to go to anger management. I probably should. But surely you wouldn't suggest I let him win this one!

Sometimes I think all men are in cahoots against me. Just kidding. I mostly wanted to use the word CAHOOTS.

Beautiful murals, Gila. Very impressive. I particularly like the Aztec. How long did it take to paint the full cycle?

On a more modest note: a stained glass box I designed and built

It's fitted with 2 trays. The lower has a folding handle, and the top uses a brass flower for a handle.

I had forgotten I made it (that's how long ago it was), but when I saw it at my sister's house, the memories came back. It's very complex as such things go, even if I do say so myself.

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

    I LOVE THOSE, MoreOther!
I really want to learn how to "do" glass... I'm afraid I really lack the precision and patience it seems to me it would take. Plus the sharp edges!
As for the Aztec, the whole scene took about one day, including the boob-jobs they kept having me re-do. Both the bigggggg walls were 2-3 days each. Thank you!

I am genuinely impressed by your work, Gila. It's not the sort of thing you learn overnight, is it.

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

Well, I painted some "murals" on my bedroom walls with crayons as a kindergartner. My mother said she would sell me to gypsies if it ever happened again. I've always been drawing - pictures for friends, doodling in class, sculpting with cookie-dough. I have gotten better over the years, thanks to learning from mistakes, tips from designers I might be working for, and looking at others' murals. Thank you for asking.

    Not all men !

Those murals are fantastic ....a real tour de force !!
Tell us.....do you sign your name anywhere on the walls......or leave your mark anywhere ??

Or......leave your business card at the cash ?

  16. GaleriaGila

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

    Well, Komo....
Like most of my business practices, I'm wildly inconsistent. If I don't like the finished product, I may not sign it. If I do like it, I may sign it dramatically.
Hmmmm... I never thought to try to leave cards behind...
Maybe I'll look for a business course instead of anger management. In my case, they might accomplish the same thing.
    And... thank you!

The other day I handed my business card to an antique dealer, who said he didn't have one to give me.
I thought nothing of it until I got home and realized that in 2015 business people now touch they're smart phones together.....and download each others vitals !!

Maybe you could paint one of those square bar code thingys on the wall and folks could snap it with their phones ????

    Eh....heh ...huh !!

    ( oh....I'm so 1980's ! ) :sour::wacky::wacky:

(LOL) It's a thought! Or better yet, incorporate the QR into the design.

Okay, I just learned what a QR is.
That's a coolio idea, about incorporating it.
Komo, you may be in the 1980s, but I am closer to the 1880s. I only recently got rack cards, after being out of business cards for almost a year. The guy who does my taxes almost throws up when he sees me come in with my shoe-box... it seems my book-keeping leaves something to be desired. And then there was the time I did some protest drawings on a to-be-demolished historic church (people cheered me on!) and I tried to claim that as a donation to the Diocese. I got no support on that and I'm still mad.
