My sister collects kitschy pottery planters. This one has me stumped and her creeped out ... LOL! Quality seems better than a lot we see. About 2 x heavier than most of similar size. Painted details are under glaze, rather than cold-painted. About 6" tall x 6" deep x 4 3/4" wide. Any ideas of origin?

It appears to say something on the bottom. Can you make it out? Horton something? For Tim something? Jan or Jane?

I'll be darned! Sure can not see anything looking directly. If I tip at an angle, can see some slight indentations where the mark is. Amazing how photography can bring it out a bit. Thanks for the great sleuthing!

    Found this.....

".... on a message board there was a post by the eldest daughter of Horace and Geraldine Horton. She stated that Horton Ceramics was started in Eastland, TX right after her father returned from WWII in 1946. The company started Horton and sold their products up until 1964."

Isn't it a brother's responsibility to creep out his sister from time to time? Kitschy pottery planters? I would like to see that collection.

There is a scene in Beetlejuice where he turns himself into a jack in the box.
    Scary stuff.

I'd say it was the right planter to pick up right before Halloween. Put a fake plant in it and sit it next to the pumpkin.
