Featured Glandford Village U.K. shell museum

Lovely little place, here’s some pics. They could do with a few more info labels on some items I think.

I believe they found another seam of Blue John in Derbyshire not so long ago so there’s a bit more about. I sold a chunk at Auction that I found at a carboot but wish I still had it. Glandford Village is near Holt a Georgian town (Catherine Princess of Wales has been seen there a few times) and so nice to stroll around, very little traffic, no stench of weed, pretty flint houses and we paid just £3 entry fee and we were just left to browse on our own with no staff, the lady who took our entrance fee lived next door and just asked us to shut the door when we left.

 

We do have pockets of the picturesque

 

Many of the village houses have your Dutch style gables AJ .

Apparently the building was purpose built to house the collection:

"It is a small building with Dutch gables, and was built in 1915 by the late Sir Alfred Jodrell, Baronet, of Bayfield Hall, in a style to harmonise with the rest of the village. The work was carried out by workmen employed on the Bayfield Estate under the direction of Mr Thomas Holbrook, a churchwarden of the parish church."

Yes, I noticed that the museum also has a Dutch gable.
You are just a hop across the water from us, and there have been commercial and cultural exchanges between Norfolk and the Netherlands for thousands of years.

 

I really love the little museums in the UK and Ireland that have retained the Victorian style of display. Here are a few pics of one I visited in Whitby -
