Featured Late 1950's Dresser ?

    Hello would you date this piece as late 50's do you think ?

    Bought in the UK

    Length 47 1/2"

    Width 19 1/2"

    Height 35 1/2" and 40”

    Could be earlier. Might go back to the '30s.

    Can you see a "Utility Furniture Scheme" label on back? Definitely 1950's unless my memory is going dim.

    The quarter sawn oak, deep well top and botanical friezes argue for earlier rather than later. Looks like Deco, 1930 to 1950, depending on how conservative the maker was.

    Between the oak and the carving I'd say distinctly pre-War. Afterward I doubt anyone was going to take the time to add fancy carved bits. The 50s was more likely to run to maple or faux mahogany finishes if my relatives' post-War furniture was any guide. Oak didn't show up again until the late 70s.
