Hello from Florida

Greetings from Florida, USA! I do not collect antiques but I appreciate them, having grown up in Virginia where many of our daily household items have been passed down through generations. We grew up dining on creaky spindle back chairs made by my great-great grandfather, eating at the table he made which was worn buttery soft at the edges. Some of my favorite childhood memories are of rummaging through my grandmother’s attic, discovering beautiful items from long ago. I enjoy poking around antique shops for fun.
I love high quality craftsmanship and the reminder that there is a need and place for beauty.

Florida is not the antiques Mecca that Virginia is, and perhaps the sun burns out much desire to hold onto old things. But I still hold onto our family’s sterling flatware and stemware, old jewelry, a few prints, and some furniture.

I have a particular interest in Chinese export jewelry from the late 1800s onward, thanks to a few pieces inherited from family. One is a glass choker with a sterling dragon clasp, which I am trying to repair and re string. Another is a delicate filigree choker with untreated turquoise, made of a gilded base metal that makes my neck itch.

I also like silver in all forms. Right now I am chasing down info on an 1800s butter knife which is still more than serviceable.

Another is a delicate filigree choker with untreated turquoise, made of a gilded base metal that makes my neck itch. Sounds like Chinese "kingfisher" jewelry. I am a fan too.
