Featured Marble statue

How old is the statue.Any estimates?
It is unsigned. It is about 38cm tall

the thing I learned from an old friend who was an artist who went through a highend art school/college is that most of these marble and bust figures were a required project during their residency back in the day... to get into one of these programs obviously the artist were very gifted - thus the quality shines through on most examples...

 

Ok so what does that mean for this piece?
That someone did it to get into art school?
During what time period?

From Victorian times? My Italian friend who grew up in Sydney said it looks Italian. She is not necessarily an antiques person just was her first comment

 

As above, I also think it's Italian. I used the term "Victorian" as a time frame, not as an cultural identifier. But for clarity... Mid to late 1800s.

I uploaded some new photos. I need to double check it's definitely antique as it will cost me a ridiculous amount to post and I need to determine if I should walk away from it. Cut my losses.
170usd to buy. 440usd to post. I didn't realise the postal cost. Lesson learned there.
I didn't buy to onsell but nonetheless I don't want to waste money if it's not antique and am considering walking away from the 170 if necessary, given what total cost would be.

Looks antique to me but not an expert. Must have been a popular piece to have so many versions. Is that damage I see to a few of the fingers? Did you check out USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Box? Oh, just checked... Weight limit 70 lbs.

Which is heavier: Alabaster or marble? I dunno, shipping costs would make me shy away.

 

Marble would be heavier. Shipping costs are 440USD for this item

 

This weighs 20lbs. I wonder why the ups store didn't offer that option. Their cheapest option was 440usd.

Thanks Deborah It weighs 19 pounds and is 14.5" X 7.5" X 6"
So from my interpretation of the USPS website it should only be 276usd as it seems too big for their flat rate box.
Not sure why UPS are adding so much more to the USPS price if my interpretation is correct

 

That rate doesn't seem right. Where are you calculating shipping from and to?
