Featured Sterling rose necklace...made when?

Love it, wear it, curious on the decade. It's got that "joint" spring ring I've seen on early 20th c pieces (but don't know the actual use dates on), but it looks more modernist maybe? Or I'm completely off, which is fine because I bought her for her looks and not her age lol. I've seen lots of roses made in somewhat this way, but with various dates.

Numbers on back I'm assuming are just inventory control. Length hits right at the collarbone.

 

What’s the actual length please?

My gut feel is thirties into forties, the style would fit the fashion.

 

15" (38 cm) and pendant is 1.5" (3.8 cm).

 

Seconded on the date. The rose would have been made that way into the 50s, but the spring ring style is probably pre-WWII. Might have been sitting in a factory drawer and used afterward, but the shorter the necklace the older it is.

 

See, you get me. I'm so conflicted. Definitely I've seen 40-50s brooches with the entire rose done in the thin bent style that the middle of this one has. But that joint spring ring and solid trigger...I wish I knew the date range on those, but what I've seen is always earlier. Also the "Sterling" stamp instead of 925, the chain style, the attachment to the pendant instead of a bail... is making me think earlier (though of course that's not a guarantee).

 

It's pulling a Scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz - pointing both ways at once.

 

A date with a marge of -give or take- 20 years is not that bad in the jewelry world, now is it?
I might have some similar looking rose necklaces/pendants laying in the hoard.
Although mine are more modest.
They make excellent Mothers day gifts

 

Oh it's less the exact date and more the style movement for me. So is this Arts and Crafts or is this Modernist? There's a tiny touch of overlap but a piece made 1910 would be solidly AnC and a 1940 would be solidly Modernist. I'm thinking it must be Modernist. The silver work is closer to that I think.

Also I want to unlock the dates of those joint spring rings lol. That would be helpful.

That's what I thought. That + "Sterling", 2 ring attachment and chain said turn of century to me. Then I thought well maybe Modernist... Well shit. I guess it's a mystery forever.

But thank you for confirming what I had thought from my pure observations and no actual documentation about those clasps!

 

I'm really surprised. My reaction was 1970s. That double link chain was hugely popular in the late 70s early 80s. The rose also fits that era. I hope you can ID it with certainty and come back with the answer.

 

I still think it's a mushel. Some factory had newly made roses and vintage leftovers on the back of a shelf and put them all together. The roses could date all the way into the 60s, but I think 50s is probably more like it.

The thread is wonderful and I'll have to read up on the links there. All my pieces with that clasp, and those I've seen, were obviously Victorian or Edwardian in style. All my obvious Art Deco pieces have a different spring ring. This is one of those at first glance I thought nah, but all the little bits (besides the clasp) pointed to earlier. It's staying with me so I'll keep an eye out for similar pieces or catalogs.

 

I had the exact necklace and dated it the early-mid 1940s. I think the detailed answers above probably hold the correct date but I'm no good at narrowing it down.
