Those are absolutely stunning, Browen! I slapped my hand over my mouth when I scrolled down! :jawdrop: I hope you wear them!

I fully intend to give them an outing from time to time. Need to upgrade my life to have events to go to that really merit them.

I do lectures and art openings, but I would absolutely just wear these to a nice weekend lunch lol. That detail on them and the frames is just so lovely.

  5. Figtree3

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

They are beautiful, @Bronwen -- You'll find a place for them -- both to wear and to just look.

If I upgraded my life i'd have to upgrade my wardrobe to go with the jewels. And upgrade my 2005 Altima to go with that...nah.

I'm good with black jeans & black turtleneck from L.L. Bean & great jewels. I do have some snazzy jackets & vests from crafts shows to dress up a bit more. Now, if only I had a gala to go to...

I need some black jeans and black turtlenecks then.(LOL) My church clothes often don't lend themselves to joolie adornment, although it's happened.

You know us New Yorkers: we're just wearing black until something darker comes along.

I think my niece has been taking fashion notes. She dresses like a Model T - any color as long as it's black. Meanwhile, she's an art major. Makes no sense.

I dunno that sounds like a benefit, not a deterrent! I upgraded mine $5 a time at the thrift. I have more gorgeous pieces than time to wear them now. More cashmere and silk then I know what to do with, and at $5/piece I'm not too precious about them. I do live in a (smaller) city where the stock is decent though, but I will totally pop in a thrift or two in a bigger city when I'm visiting.

I did not update my car. I get a perverse thrill in of stepping out of my 1996 RAV4 (that parks outside in the debris field and now needs a new clear coat) in designer clothing and accessories. Love that car.

Depends on the art major! Black is super popular with the "I take myself too seriously" painters, photographers, fashion designers...and the cute goth kids that just want to draw nerdy things. :artist:

You live in NY though....Movies and TV have led me to believe ya'll have an unending amount of cool stuff to go to. :pompous: I could never get an invite to their Gala, but catch me making the trip to the Met on a regular day with all my jewels on like a true pretender! :p

That's me, checking my bespoke winter coat, wearing bling no one believes came off eBay. (Not this latest; it's from an auction house.)

    Yessssss. I love it.

I need to figure out these online auctions you collectors of extreme taste peruse. I finally went to my first ever live auction last month (local auction house...we are not talking Christies lol). I did not behave, though I did stick to my shopping list. No bling though, just antique furniture for me. Only a couple of small 20th c cameos were on offer. Maybe that experience will make it easier for me to figure out the online ones outside of the Bay. ....or more terrified ha.

Auction houses that make their auctions available through platforms like Invaluable or the-saleroom vary in how accommodating they are to on line bidders, so you really need to pay attention to the terms & conditions for fees, payment methods accepted, shipping options available. Sometimes it's possible to participate on line directly through their own web site instead of through one of the intermediaries.

Used to be that cameo prices were much cheaper on eBay & etsy, even Ruby Lane, than auction house offerings. Not so true anymore.

Can't wear the cashmere myself - allergic to animal fibers. As for the niece, machine washable nerdy kid is about right. She likes glass blowing, so probably needs clothes she can burn holes in and not care.

Glass blowing! Well I can't say her career will be easy, but I absolutely love that art form and appreciate the skill.
