I'd appreciate some help identifying and translating this item. It looks like a teapot but it seems too small to be one. Perhaps it was meant to hold oil?

It appears to be cast iron, heavy, rusted, with inscriptions on all sides that look Persian / Middle Eastern.

    Any clues? Thanks in advance!

Seems like a normal sized teapot.

I don't see Arabic characters here, which also rules out Farsi. The handle looks inspired by bamboo, so I would look to that part of the world.

Thanks so much for the info. I'll dig deeper now in that direction.

The script looks like Chinese cursive script. That, along with the bamboo shape of both pot and handles, suggests China or neighbours along the east coast of Asia.
The texts are not inscriptions, they are cast along with the rest of the metal. Inscriptions would be inscribed after casting.

Looks Chinese to me, possibly a paper lantern, with the bamboo handle added to give it that oriental look. Perhaps an early 20th century tourist piece?
