bought this walking stick off a couple , saying it was NA, in the early 90's....

not something I saw every day , so I paid up for it....& cuz I liked the work !

the rattle tells me where it may be from, & they said it was SW USA... so it fits.

    Is it 1st nations......? I don't really know ........... & who cares...;);):woot:

& then there are old snakes..... circa 1800...give or take a few decades...

Akan / Ashanti brass gold weights.......from an old collection , I was gifted....by a very wealthy friend .

The fingerprint was in the wet sand or the wax original carving maybe. Lost wax will do that, but it's a good trick.

ya...I was thinking that flat head was made by someone pressing the mold with two fingers..

They sure didn't do it to the molten metal.

I agree, it was made in the original wax model. Very nice touch, literally.

A silver and buffalo horn Naga bangle, from Bali. Seller's pics:facepalm:, another one on the to-do list:

it could also have been clay ....which would hold a print nicely !

Smitten with this thread. Love the pictures of living snakes, too! More of all of it

Was holding off sharing this little ouroboros ring I posted about in another thread. Unmarked, unknown, probably antique---AJ's expert eye suggested it may be Georgian with updated stones, but I haven't been able to get the ring or stones tested yet so she remains a mystery for the time being! Love her to pieces all the same

That hairwork one!! What does "kyratised" mean? Is that like, "Kyra made it better"?? Did you make the hairwork or combine found pieces? Either way, stunning work

No one in their right minds does hairwork any more, which isn't to say someone isn't doing it.

That fellow was an Eastern Fox snake that was in my garden. My significant other was kind enough to relocate him farther afield.

    Exactly, Kyra made it better!:joyful:
I used a damaged watch chain made of hollow cord of hair to slide the snake mount in it after removing head and tail, then replaced them!

INCREDIBLE!!! Love the BTS shot! I can't believe you had hairwork around that length. It's so perfect!! Were the snake parts originally mounted to hairwork?

Were there a book on kyratisation, I'd be eager to have it on my shelf (je dis ça je dis rien)

My turn! He was part of a small lot I purchased last week. I flipped him over on arrival and found Oria neatly stamped so that was a nice surprise! Speaking of, does anyone have an oria marks resource? I can't find one online.
I'm also thinking that pin is not gold rolled/plated...
He's not in the best of shape, the gold has flaked away on the edges and that's where you get the greenies coming in.

    Love it, Rachel.
As far as I know Oria made rolled gold jewellery. Or do you mean the pin part of the brooch only?
I have never found one, I also have (or had?) Oria pieces, so I would be interested to know too. Maybe @kyratango knows?:)
I do know that they began manufacture in the 1860s.
