She replied that she has a large collection of this pattern & included 2 photos of her cabinet. She said none of her glass showed orange like this piece so it must be "defective or a second".

I have told her she can return it for a full refund but she will have to pay the return shipping because I described it correctly but she just isn't happy with the color.

Well, she tried to make me fall on my sword at the top of the hill. :p:rolleyes::arghh::arghh::facepalm::banghead:

She opened a case against me earlier today & her reasons were SNAD due to discoloration. She showed a photo of her holding it upside down & the edges do show an orangish cast.

However, I was actually able to connect with a CS on the phone after trying unsuccessfully to describe the problem to the idiot-bot.:rolleyes::rolleyes::facepalm::banghead:

I explained the situation to the CS & she checked out the messages so she could see where I tried to explain the process but this lady was not having it at all. She asked for a 50% refund & I countered with a $7.00 refund.

So she got her money back on eBay's dime & got to keep the piece but that was eBay's idea because all I asked for was not to have to pay for return shipping. :p

She also got added to the rouges gallery AKA my BBL. :hilarious::hilarious:

Sorry that I'm late to the conversation, Peggy. I'm glad it worked out okay in the end. I have got an extensive collection of ruby glass and it's not unusual for it to shade to amberina. If I remember right it has something to do with the formula and the way it's heated. If the least little thing goes wrong you end up with orange shading. It seems to have been a real problem for Fenton. You can get three examples of the same Fenton piece and they may shade from a muddy red to a pretty obvious amberina. I've even seen a piece from their bicentennial line that was was supposed to be ruby but ended up a solid orange. I seem to remember one of the Fenton family members talking about the difficulties of making ruby glass on QVC. I've also noticed Westmoreland has the same issues. Westmoreland wasn't know for it's ruby glass so it wasn't surprising to me that their shading was also inconsistent. Sometimes the orange shading only shows in a particular light and it's hard to photograph. When selling I try to mention, as best I can, the particular color of the individual piece. If your buyer is really particular of her ruby color she should stay away from Westmoreland and Fenton or expect some degree of color variation. Hope this helps.

Peggy, the ruby color in Paneled Grape is very rare. I found a complete Punch Bowl set here in Ohio many years ago and that was all I ever found. The Punch Bowl Set was made by Wright, but it sold in my space immediately (rarity). I've seen many many ruby pieces with the amberina color at the edges. I'll admit that I don't particularly care for that, but it happens all the time. If I were collecting ruby Paneled Grape, however, I would have kept this piece and been happy. I thought your BIN price was very reasonable. And where will you find another? IMO, your buyer was looking for a deal and overplayed her hand. Her outrage got the best of her. She was lucky ebay didn't make her send it back.
