Featured Need help with amber. Is this butterscotch

My necklace passed the salt water float test, static test and had a distinct smell when touched with a hot needle. I want to sell it and need more assurance that it’s real.

 

Never ever use hot needles.

Do you have a UV light?

 

Hot needles.... I'm polite, so I won't. Hot needles are good for nothing but causing damage.

Have you tried blacklight yet? Some amber glows when hit with a UV light in an otherwise dark room. It's also addictively fun to mess with but that's another matter.

 

Yes, get a UV light, non damaging and fun to see what else glows!

Please don’t use hot needles, I look at so much jewellery that has been damaged by hot needles and acid and it devalues it financially and aesthetically.
Someone on here also had a story about someone ending up in A&E/ ER using hot needles but that’s probably a tale for another day

Yes, it is amber. Pressed Baltic amber, and a mix of colours, including butterscotch.

Please stay away from hot needles. There are other, more conclusive, ways of testing without doing damage. UV light is one, the salt water float test is usually the go-to test for amber.
You can also rub a bead vigorously and smell it. If it smells of pine, it is amber.
