I have just spent eight days in England returned with this Majolica cheese keeper. It is in perfect condition, without a chip or crack, although the plate top is crazed and stained.

The shape is that of a wedge of cheese. The deco is a white wicker picnic basket decorated with flowers, leaves, and a brown, yellow green moss pattern.

I don't know what the Blutack on the base of the plate is, but it is very hard.

    Dimensions:

    Sides of plate - 25cm x 25cm x25cm. Height – 3.5cm

    Sides of wedge - 18cm x 18cm x 18cm. Height – 13cm

Overall height to top of handle - 17cm

    Weight – 1.575 grammes

What do you all think? Is it a genuine Victorian era Majolica cheese keeper? Any idea of maker? Thanks for your thoughts.

Are you sure it's blu tack? Maybe it had felt on the base, and what you see is glue and felt.
You could try lighter fluid to remove it. Or alcohol.

Lighter fuel, a tissue, and great cost to my fingernails is slowing getter it to come off. Thank you for the suggestion.

Yup. Candle lighters use it too. Most aren't refillable. I use mine to light candles and the gas stove if the power goes out.

I'd use a salamander to make Creme Brulee, but not butane.

I looked into getting one. I have a closet I keep my kitchen gadget/ portable appliances in, I wish I could find a smaller one, I’m running out of room.
