Featured Odd colored older plastic necklace. Celluloid?

This has the strangest green but not hue. My first thought was bake but it doesn’t test. I actually got a red streak on the q-tip and then just some dirt lifted after that. I tested the same spot twice to be sure. I was thinking it could be celluloid. Is there a specific name for the barrel clasp? There is some crazing on some beads. I don’t see any mold lines.

They are the very same colour that comes out of every tin of processed green peas; but your necklace has far more taste.

 

The clasp reminds me of older pieces, but thinking this might be more vintage or newer due to the color of the beads and of the thread. I'm not used to seeing black thread/cord on much older pieces, but of course could have been restrung. I think the color of the beads suggests 1960s or more recent.

 

I dont know which material it is. I used to have a necklace with crazing like this one but in bright marbled yellow instead of green.
If you see crazing like this you know its not bakelite.
I sold my necklace because I m not fond of the crazing. To me it means the material is deteriorating.
The screw barrel clasp is a sign of older pieces. I think Lucille is right and it was restrung on the black thread at some point.

 

Bakelite that isn't. It might well be celluloid.

 

If these were restrung, someone did a far better job of getting the clasp back on without slack than I did when restringing something similar. Easy enough to get the first end on, but the second one...

 

I've done it, but it never works correcly. IF the clasp isn't glued together to the point that you can't take the screw-threaded piece out.

 

Bronwen, it takes some practice but its not that difficult. This type of clasp unscrews and you can easily fit a knot in both ends of it. Slack is not that bad actually...I have restrung some so tightly the cord hangs too straight
Nothing to do about that other than start all over.

 

Now I can't find the necklace in question & am really vexed. It's graduated MOP beads that have yellowed. Think there's a pic in someone else's thread from long ago, but darned if I can find the thing or figure out where it could be that I haven't looked.

Found the pic. You can see how bad the gap is. Probably tried to use knotting tweezers to snug the second knot, with notable unsuccess.

 

Mine are extremely light. I don’t think it could be MOP but it really looks like it. I’m thinking celluloid or some plastic for sure. Ty!!

 

I'm sure you'll all sleep better for knowing I found my MOP necklace. However, despite my fervid hopes, elves had not fixed the knot for the clasp.

 

Might it be galalith? I have some faceted coral coral beads like that with the crazing lines on the surface.
