Chinese Soapstone Statue

Wonder if the stone was dyed or treated in some way or natural color?

 

That does not look right to me. Never seen any this color or with all those darker stripes.

 

Agree with Bakers. Doesn't look quite right. Appears to have a coating over it which soapstone generally does not have.

Is this a chip? Does it appear to be plaster underneath?

 

the whole thing is cold to touch so not sure. The chipped areas reveal white material but don’t know if plaster or soap like stone.

 

IMO it is stone, just dyed brown.

 

Plaster often shows little air holes. Use a magnifying glass if necessary.

 

Plaster doesn't have grain though ...

 

It looks a bit like this one of mine which I thought was resin. Mine is heavy and cold too. Maybe mine is plaster then?

 

Couldn't edit so have to reply to myself...I meant mine looks to be the same material perhaps as Kards,so whatever Kard's is mine is probably the same? xx​
