I'm sorry if I'm in the wrong section, help me identify the watch. What model is this?

Written on the dial... ROLEX Oysterdate Precision. Introduced in 1953. Lots of additional information on the internet. That's not the band one would expect. Is it marked ROLEX? (And don't let anyone but an authorized ROLEX dealer touch it if repairs needed.)

That looks like a fake. Face, arms, case, band attachment, and back all wrong. To be sure, have a jeweler open it up (or learn to do it yourself) and examine the movement. A lot of fake Rolexes have been made, and really ramped up in the 70s and 80s. I took the 1950s Rolex Oyster that had belonged to my uncle to a watchmaker in the 80s, and he told me it was the only authentic Rolex he had seen so far that year.

Why don't you tell us where you got it and what you know about it.

found at the owner's in Beverly Hills. She is 97 years old, and they took everything valuable from the house. We were left with garbage.

There are a lot of fakes about. All started in the 1980s. But if you want to be sure before your smash it... Since you're in LA, you can always take it into an authorized ROLEX dealer and ask for an estimate for cleaning and repair. They'll confirm or not right away. But agree with above... It doesn't look at all right for a number of reasons (e.g. case back, variation and quality of ROLEX logo, band.)
