    Ditto but it’s a bungalow.
A hastily thrown up one with crumbling plaster and damp but in one of the most beautiful cotswold villages.
I quite literally bought it because of the view from the living room window. I don’t think any other viewers dared to go that far and ran far far away when they saw the kitchen.
We could either afford a nicer house in a town housing development that you wouldn’t know which was your house after a trip to the pub or a crappily built one in a beautiful village. I chose the location.

My gaff is built like a brick sh!thouse to coin a phrase. 1928 London suburban, nine inch thick brick walls outside and not far off that inside, no breeze block thankyouveddymuch. The plaster is concrete, we burnt out three electric drills in five years. No settlement, no cracks, the window subframes are solid oak.

    Beautiful, and so very Cotswolds.

The view was one of the reasons why we bought our boring house. Two rows of beautiful thick chestnut trees across the road, and more trees a bit further behind the chestnuts. Unfortunately the chestnut trees had to be cut down this year, due to a disease.:bigtears:
I still look out on the other trees, but also on a boring 1970s school building that now houses a local radio station. I did plant a magnolia tree in our front garden just after we moved in, it is now mature and hides part of the 1970s building from sight.;)
I miss the chestnut trees though.:( They will be replaced, probably next year, but it takes long for trees to grow that big.

On the upside, the entire street is designated to become a "green zone" with lots of trees and other greenery, park benches, etc. We are close to the centre of town and they want more greenery to lower the temperature during hot summers due to climate change.

About the park benches: they weren't part of the original plans, nor were footpaths through the greenery.
The council and planners are mostly boring Dutch, but our neighbourhood isn't. It is very mixed, and we have many people from Turkey, Kurdistan, the Med, etc. Cultures where people enjoy an evening stroll and meet people along the way, have a friendly chat etc.
Our side of the street has always had a wide footpath, perfect for three young ladies to stroll arm in arm and meet others. A lovely sight.
When the initial plans were published, there were protests that they wouldn't be able to take their evening stroll anymore, and could benches be placed too please. The council planners listened(!:woot:) and the plans were changed so our neighbourhood would stay 'our neighbourhood'.

My back windows used to look out on wetlands which couldn't be built on. Then the town got paid off to change the zoning and they put a street back there. Fortunately only one lot of two behind me has been built on. There are lots of mature trees in the neighborhood though, so except for one neighbor who keeps leaving their too-bright porch light on at night it's not bad at all.
