Oil portrait of Katherine Gibbs but who painted it? Anyone know this artist?

 

Or "Mama" as we called her. Typically, these types of portraits were painted by local artists. You might be able to track the artist down via familysearch.org or ancestry.com.

The book cover painting looks different from the one I have. Unless it’s by the same artist which is possible.

 

Similar but different in small details

 

You have? You just happen to have a portrait of Katharine Gibbs? That's an odd thing to own. There was probably a portrait hung in each of her schools. One an original and the other copies which would account for minor variations. The detailing at neckline makes me think yours is not the original. Imagine this was produced from the original.

There's a Nettie Noyes Conroy in a 1952 obit, but I'm not going to sign up to see what it says:

I'd guess the painting was done from the photo.

 

Here. This is accessible to all. A Nettie Noyes married to a Conroy in Lowell, MA. Not sure she's the right class though. Husband's at an "Ammunitions Works" and she's "At Home."

Fred W. Noyes Have similar signature for Noyes part , but style and skill level are very different
