Hi there, I'm not having any luck finding any info about this stork print. It looks like the name is E. Ememih and then something, 1895. The card itself is 5x8.

A possible artist may be Erwin Emerich 1876 - 1960 a French artist who studied at the Karlsruhe Art Academy in Germany which is just across the border from Strasbourg in North East of France.I was unable to find a birthplace for Erwin but just north of Strasbourg is a town Varsburg and I beleive it is (Varsburg 1895) that is written after the artist name.Maybe someone can find a birthplace for Edwin and can help prove whether or which.

That's interesting. But doesn't look much like his signature. (Nor his type of subject.)

Just looking at a potrait of a girl painted by Erwin Emerich on www.Lot Tissimo and the signature is different again and is dated 35 (assume1935).Must remember he would have only been 19 to 20 years old in 1895 and like many artists starting out signatures vary.On that site they say he was from Strasbourg.IMO a strong possibility to be the artist.

It was a set of two, here is the other picture, but there is no signature or dates on it. They are so quirky, but interesting at the same time.

Could it be that the printer put the name, city and date on with their own font.

Would have to think it is artist signature and when and where painted.

The second shows up as a Swedish postcard:

The title, "Ett svårt val", translates as "A difficult choice."

They seem to me to have a definite Rackham influence, but that's pretty much to be expected for the period.

In a biography of Erwin Emerich it says he studied at the Karlsruhe Art Academy and in a Master Class with Ferdinand Keller ,German artist, who was painting nymph and classical Allurgical scenes in 1890s.Possibly this was his influence?????

Reminiscent of The Water-Babies, although I don't think choosy storks come into it.
