It seems I'm in the mood today.

Edit so I have one website telling me that is a west Germanic language closely related to Dutch and another telling me that the only difference is that Dutch spoken in Belgium is called Flemish. No other difference. I think I'll go with what AJ said.

Dutch is a Frankish language, so Germanic like English.
Flemish is a form of Belgian Dutch. There are slight differences between the different forms of Dutch, even inside Belgium and inside the Netherlands. There are also many dialects.
The most noticeable difference is the accent, and you can certainly hear if someone is from Belgium or the Netherlands.

There are other Belgian Dutch accents besides Flemish: The Belgian Brabant accent and the Belgian Limburg accent. My region in the Netherlands borders on Belgian Limburg, so their accent sounds very familiar to me.

In an effort to make the Belgian language situation easy to understand, someone decided to call all Belgian forms of Dutch Flemish. So there you are.:playful:

Netherlands Dutch is spoken mostly in the West and South of the Netherlands. The others speak other Germanic languages, but most will speak Dutch if they have to.

Speaking of wallpaper, I have found recipe boxes that the previous owner wallpapered over. Guess they wanted to match their kitchen, but I wish they would have left them without it.
