Any idea on period?

    Hi there:
    Since you mentioned 1970s, I’ll go with that. There are 1870s Euro/American-inspired design elements, but it is plainly newer. Looks to be southeast Asian and probably bought new…in the 1970s.

    I agree, Anglo-Indian style, possibly made in the Mumbai area. Mumbai (Bombay) furniture often had that vine carving. Probably 20th century though, but could still be colonial period, very nice quality.
    The wood looks like it could be padouk.

    Thanks to all of you!
    I fell in love with it the moment I saw it in the auction room...pulled in on the roadside to bid with a very bad wifi signal. Got it for €100.
    It is extremely heavy, the top alone needs 2 people to lift it and the leg assemblage consists of 2 base pieces which fit diagonally, with the uprights inserted into holes there and into two pieces of wood on the underside of the table.
