Featured Is this smiling toddler a one off/private creation?

Does anyone recognize this?

Its about six inches high.

I am wondering if there were many of these made since it has no identifying marks that I can see.

My father in retirement hired some artists to create some sculptures that he was going to make into lawn ornaments. So, I know there can be anything literally found in thrift shops. He ended up selling the business so I don't know if they were ever produced.

They are imitations in the style of some Scandinavian make.

Doesn't apply to this, but Carlton Ware was often marked "Registered Australian Design" because Australia was part of a regional trade agreement in which participants agreed not to copy patterns registered in those countries.

 

It's adorable! And of course, I played with the bottom.....enlarged, hit it with contrast, de-saturated the color, etc.....I do see some minuscule writing in 3 places, which I've underlined... maybe you can try to see if you see anything.....and they could just be artist's notes, but I can't read that tiny and trying to enlarge only distorted too much.....and I see I missed a couple of places with small writing....near bottom left.....

About the bottom, I just noticed it has felt over it, which has worn away quite a bit making it harder to recognize. Any maker's marks are obscured by it.

 

Is this a heavy piece? I wonder if it could be a bookend. Sometimes figurines were filled with sand through the bottom and the hole plugged with plaster. Looks like there might be a plaster plug here.
