Best 5 dollars I have spent at auction Ormolu Bronze Sconce

    I cannot believe nobody bid against me. It was kind of a weird thing to toss into the mix of mostly sporting goods. It has some misshapen leaves and tarnish. I just fell in love with it. I was told it was from the 1820s? Do you agree?

    If it is gilded, it should clean up with ammonia and a toothbrush.

    Thanks for the tip! I meant to ask in the original post what to use. Maybe I will post a pic once I clean it!

    Not sure this is ormolu. May just be brass. I see verdigris that needs to be taken care of. Really hard to tell age since made for a lot of years. I do think this is not new.... at least first half of the 20th century but could be older. Your plain candle cups and tubular arms do make me think 20th century. Any way you look at it, a great buy for $5.00!

    LOL Yeah not my thing either but went with a friend. 2.5 hours and 5 dollars later I walked away with this!! And they bought me dinner. :)

    For US$5? I'd bet the brass would scrap for that!
