I purchased this lot of scroll weights. They're something I'm totally ignorant about.

One pair is heavy metal (brass?), one is carved wood, and one is glass (I think).

I'd love to hear any and all comments about form, function, age, and / or quality.

    Thank you.

    Hm. Great research.

There's nothing too visible on mine to suggest there was once a pendant--of jade or coral or glass-- but those certainly match otherwise.

    Thank you!

What do you think of the one with the carved wooden figures? I have one semi similar but more figures and they are smaller. Very light wood. Not heavy enough to hold down a rolled scroll. Have always wondered what it was.

Yes-- they are much lighter than the glass and metal ones, so probably aren't weights.

They each have two tassels, so maybe we're intended to be draped over something.....

I have found a few similar, all described as Chinese necklaces - but nothing definitive.

It is interesting that you have a pair, and both appear to be carvings of the same man/deity. I can't tell what they are holding, which might be helpful in identifying the subjects.

Here is mine for good measure. Modern US $1 coin for scale. Seems to have a bit of age though probably not a great deal. I’ve assumed Chinese. A1DBB3C0-A6AA-412E-A850-23C4FF8EADA5.jpeg 82DE363A-AF92-4F84-A1B1-60CB8A314FB0.jpeg 14170E65-AA35-4FAF-9A1A-8CAFBC4258EF.jpeg

    Very similar!

Mine are 20" long each, and each has two holes on top and two holes on bottom--- in other words the top and bottom strings are not the same string but rather the top cord goes in one hole and then immediately out the other hole. Same on the bottom. (I wish I could explain that more succinctly! Geez!)
