Any idea what these are? Pottery

Has holes. Solid lid under hole. Tiny matching bowl inside.

 

If that isn't a big hole in the top I'd guess maybe a garlic keeper?

Thank you both. What threw me off was the little matching removable bowls inside.

 

The top half is completely hollow.

 

Hmm, so the upper portion is sort of like a vase whose base acts as a lid for the perforated bottom section?

 

From the form of the hole in the top section, I'm wondering if it may once have had a lid... like a ginger jar.
Therefore... a potpourri jar? IE: store the potpourri in the (lidded) top section and, when desired, place some in the bowl in the perforated bottom section.
I believe the incised markings on the sides are meant to evoke bamboo, so quite possibly of Japanese origin.

 

too few holes for pot porri, I would think...

 

If the top section is vase/jar like, I was wondering if it's a diffuser. I did wonder if the holes would be big enough to let a tea light burn but they might be.
