Glazed bowl that uses decal?

I'm looking for more information about this bowl.

It has an intricate design pattern at the center, and it's hard to believe it would be a one-off job. It has a little bit of a look of a decal that was applied.

    Anyone know about this?

The bowl is about 11 inches wide.

I cannot feel any rise to the center where the edge of the inner circle is. When I gently scratch my fingernail there is no catch.

It may be a transfer outline then hand coloured.

So it was fired with a blank area in the center and then transfer outlined with some kind of ink pen and paints? I don't know anything about that process you mentioned.

There are hits with "transfer outlined pottery" in google.

I wonder what kind of paints are used professionally on fired pottery.

The transfer, or decal to you, is applied. First firing, then painted, then glazed and fired again.

I am missing when it's applied.

You mean this? "first firing, then painted and transfer or decal is applied, then glazed and fired again."

The kiln is going to burn up anything other than clay and glaze. The process seems new to me.

The transfer goes on unfired clay. Let me see if I can find a decent cite for you.

I'm hoping anyone might have any photos of other pottery that uses this technique.

Maybe in your searches you can post one if you see one.
