Not particularly old, but a good find. I know people enjoy good thrift store finds, so I thought I would post this. Picked it up for $4.00 the other day. It is painted on a wooden panel and measures about 8" by 10". I believe the artist to be Sarah Siltala, I will write her to make sure. I read in an article that there are several artists in her family. If you go to her website it explains her technique. I am guessing this is a little older work, her current work is very polished. I noticed at the galleries representing her that a number of her paintings have sold. Thanks for looking, comments always appreciated. I promise I will post an actual antique at some point.

I'd make the same assumptions re artist and age. A very interesting find.

But for size, they could be Royal Anne or Rainier cherries!

JMO but I think that frame is a tad distracting. It's too challenging to the artist's perspective.

agreed. It helps me to notice how the apples appear to be "floating" and not well grounded on the table surface. I would guess that if this is an established artist, that this would be a very early piece or student work. Even the gold frame screams a fairly high level of student work to me..

Perhaps we're the antiques and everything else is just collectible?

The artist wrote me back. She said it was from her first year learning to paint in oils, around 1998-99. The subject of the painting is apples. She was very happy to see it and said she wished she had kept some of her paintings from that era. She also said she worked at the gallery in high school and college.

Now that is so interesting. Good for you for reaching out and good for her for answering. It did look like an early work and she does produce lovely art.
