Just found this found the Parrot Lamp at the Junketeria today. It's 12 1/4" high and reminds me of something you'd see in a vintage Film Noir flick.
Kinda like the 'Maltese Falcon'-just not worth the two million bucks !

I'd think late 1940s into the 1950s would be right. Let's see what others think.

I'll give it the 'early Liberace' treatment once I find a tiered chartreuse & gold sparkly parrot shade (LOL !) w/a suitable top knob.
PS-I could also just attempt to scrape the gold off.

Yeah, you could...but I double-dare you to desecrate such an iconic bit of '50s living room decor!
    Nah...that ain't you, bosko...an empty threat, methinks.
If you're gonna start scraping, begin with the crummy felt onna base!

Whit-You can read me like a book ! But where the heck can I source more original 1940's multicolored felt ?!
PS-Anybody close to MCM felt curators at the V&A,Smithsonian ?

Well...whatever you find for a shade (not to mention the need for full-dress...um...guts an' feathers [lamp parts]) won't be authentic nor period accurate...so what's the matter with plain ol' green onna base, where nobody will be lookin'?
Try JoAnn Fabrics for that felt...probably available inna Rainbow of colors!

What if this lamp once belonged to Korla Pandit or Ed Wood Jr. ? I'd be destroying a national treasure.

I know I preach on and on about lampshades but... They can be made. One doesn't have to go to Home Goods and buy something non-period off the shelf.

Good heavens, bosko! As I just noted elsewhere, your card-carrying membership in AARP, not to mention yer advanced state of decrepitude, obvious to the most casual observer, makes it abundantly obvious that Korla Pandit was one of your boyhood heroes...for you to mention his long forgotten name here really paints your age as a target on yer back!

I'll apologize now, good sir, for my surly commentary regarding your dotage...I must have conveniently overlooked my own deep involvement in high senior citizenship. Hate it when that happens.

What you need to do is go back to the shop to see if you can find the side planters.

If you want an eye-opener, go read the Wikipedia entry about Korla Pandit. I'll say no more than that I was very surprised and wait for reactions from others.
