Oh, thats so sad. I always use one of those cheap clear plastic things they use to hold ear studs in place.
    Works like a charm.

A little tiny piece over the clasp will hold it, and you can peel it off safely too.

One of those French earring backs slipped on the pin stem would keep the pin attached even if the clasp opens.

Some antique clutches for stickpins allow the pin stem to run all the way through, which lets them work like the industrial strength version of the little plastic tube for keeping earrings on. The clutch for a post earring would also work.

The old stick pin "clutch" works perfectly, but sometimes these days they're more valuable than the pin they're holding. I've bought plenty of 1970s stick pins for the clutch and then donated the pin somewhere.

To open those stick pin clasps, take a hold of top and bottom and pull the top end out a bit. Sometimes you have to twist it a bit to get it to move.
It always looks like it is one piece, but it is actually two pieces, one slides very tightly into the other. When fully closed they have a tight grip on the pin.
Don't worry, you can't pull them apart all the way. But you can pull the top one out a bit to release the pin.
    Good luck!:)

The ones at the bottom of the photo evelyb posted are thin, but they would be a bit long for most brooch pins.
I agree, those earring backs work better. I use different ones, transparent silicone and more cone shaped, but the same idea.
