    Hi dear Members,

I'm looking for a vintage choker necklace for my upcoming wedding and I saw this piece online for sale and wondering if it is actually what is described like (as it is quite pricy).
Description from seller: "It weighs 51g. There are no marks, so I don't know the maker or exact age. I believe it was likely made in the mid to late 1800s. I believe the rhinestones are paste. The stones look to me like old mine cuts, but I don't know if the same nomenclature works for both diamonds and rhinestones. The metal has some silver content. I haven't tested it beyond an acid scratch, so I don't know the purity or if it is just plated. One of the stones in the center is slightly discolored (see pics). It looks like it could be from a repair where dried glue has yellowed."

Could you please kindly advise if description is close to be true.
Thank You very very much for any advise/opinion!

Definitely at least partly silver. I'd buy that so fast your head would spin.:D The stones look like really old glass, but a Victorian jeweler using the only white metal he had ... you never know. I'm not seeing any nicks or edge wear on the stones so I'd test them just in case.

You mean test them under light, or bring to the jeweller?
    Thank You for advise:shame:

At the moment it's 170$, but it's an auction so I expect bids will go up.

And are you interested in just an accessory for the big day? Or an investment piece?

I think that’s older than Victorian.

:woot:Really nice old pastes, old clasp, old mounting... that is a fine Victorian piece IMO!

komokwa The Truth is out there...!

it's a choker, so u better know that it fits...
I've never seen a clasp like that.
    from far it's really interesting...
from close it looks poorly made....rushed soldering....heavily repaired...
and the rings look like they could pop open....

    imo

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

One image from the link that Debora posted really concerns me!!! If it's NOT OK to post it, tell me and I'll take it down, but the 4 areas I've circled don't look well connected.....they could let loose....IMHO!!!! The one arrow shows what definitely looks like a hole in a metal bead!!! I'm sure there are other lovely chokers out there to be had.....and as @komokwa said....you want to be sure you get one that fits!!!

If this is as old as I think it is, I'd be more concerned if it didn't have some repairs or iffy spots! Those red circles are where the links are, and one of the two needed to be a split ring originally.

That said, if you're planning to wear it I'd make darned sure it fit first. Silver and black dot paste won't go cheap. (especially if someone wants to gamble on those being diamonds.)

Thank You for such a detailed opinion, you see much more from a picture than I do, so I’m glad I asked for advise:joyful:

    Ditto.
    Ditto.

While this is a gorgeous period piece, and it would look fab with a wedding dress of any style, the gaps in the rings concern me. There doesn't seem to be enough silver left to close them firmly and still have enough room for movement, which is essential.
And you don't want it to drop from your neck during the ceremony. Or in your food during a festive dinner.
A solution would be to have the rings soldered by a jeweller, but that adds to the cost.
