Here is the silver piece I picked up today.
Anyone know what this is used for?
No hallmarks but tested and it is silver.
    About 6 inches tall.

To me, the lid slides down on a nub and turns to hold it in place.

Looks like a sugar shaker, AKA muffineer.

    For example:

The grain & grape decoration suggests used for something alcoholic, although can also just symbolize abundant harvest.

Since it slides to hold ,that might indicate it would be to keep the lid on while you shake out the contents.

    I like it for a sugar caster , & can't believe there's no marks on it ????

Yes, could be a sugar caster.
They could be somewhere where you least expect them. French marks could be anywhere. Dutch marks too, they could be hidden in between the holes.
    Germans didn't always mark.

Send it to me. I'd be more than happy to peruse the thing with a magnifying glass until I find something definitive.

are the holes on the lid all open for shaking the contents out? What is the size of the opening on the piece? Maybe a funnel would be needed to fill it up?
    maybe marks?
