Any idea where/when/who? It’s the most mauve thing I have ever seen in my life. It’s seems pretty old. Sooo soft! Would be a nice blanket were it not for the moth holes. Or whatever made the holes. Got it for zero dollars so the price was right. Seems to be well made. 547B9E34-B463-4AE5-9348-C1ED240916E7.jpeg 83B010CC-B89F-481E-9C87-A5AD40994BF3.jpeg BC4C3810-045C-421F-A361-2F8DB19F609A.jpeg

Similar for sure. I’m fairly certain the one I posted is pretty old. I could be wrong but the lady that owned it was around 95. Not much in the home looked like it had been purchased in the last 50 years or so.

At her age she was bound to feel cold regularly. So a blanket as her only purchase in old age makes sense.

The holes I can see look like wear and tear, which is also evident along the edges. Moths or dermestids would not bother with the blanket if it is cotton, which the ones on ebay are.

Also blankets are a very common gift to the elderly. Useful and one size fits all.

That’s a fair assumption, its location within the house suggested it had been out of use and put away for a long time. Maybe not though!

To me it looks like a 1940's Beacon or Beacon-style camp blanket. They were made of wool, wool/cotton blend, all cotton, or cotton/rayon blend. Yours looks like it has faded from many washings.

Camp blankets weren't fringed like yours, but the hem could have come loose and frayed from washing over the years.

In the photos it looks to me more like cotton or cotton/rayon blend than wool. Cotton blankets can get little holes when the fibers weaken from years of use and washing.

You could snip off a few of the fringes and do a burn test (carefully with a match over a heat proof dish or surface--I hold the fibers with a tweezers and touch the fiber ends with a match, then drop the fibers onto a dish when they start burning). If the fibers smell like burning paper, leaves, or wood, it's cotton. If it smells like burning hair, it's wool. If you can't decide what it smells like, it's probably a wool/cotton or cotton/rayon blend.

Thanks. Looking at photos of the old camp blankets I think this makes sense. I’ll do a burn test and report back. I had thought it may be wool. Never considered the ends weren’t intentionally frayed but there’s definitely cross threads loosening and pulling down.
