Featured Thoughts on age????

Found these earrings in a box lot at an auction preview last week, snapped a pic and had since completely forgotten about them.

well, the online auction is this evening and due to my work schedule I won’t get a chance to swing by and get another inspection.

backs are marked “SIL” presumably abbreviating silver.

any thought on age…. Based only on this single photo?

Thanks. There are a set of Weiss clip on earrings and a small 10k lapel pin in the same lot. The lapel pin is marked, so the lot will get bid up to scrap value by the scroungers.

I just need to determine how much higher I’m willing to go based on the other sellable pieces in the lot.

That SIL mark shows up a great deal on between the wars pieces. Those are lovely.

 

If nothing else, they'd make a heckuva stocking stuffer if you have a family member with pierced ears. When the scrappers drop out you and the other joolies will keep going for a few bids.

The lot had been at $10 for the past few days, I just won for $27

 

I also just won a box lot of jewelry that had an unmarked 14k cameo on a 14k chain. Chain was marked inside the clasp, so it was easily missed.

I had been winning with the opening bid of $2 all week long. It just ended…$16

Cameo is one of those where she’s wearing a necklace. I’ll post a pic of it tomorrow evening after I pick up my loot!

 

Is there a better feeling than winning a lot you’ve had your eye on all along at a great price? I’m sure there is but it’s gotta be right up there.

 

It's definitely a rush.

 

The only thing that can match it is selling something for much more than you ever thought possible.

I know very well that it takes a lifetime (and in some cases more than one but several generations) to become a real expert in something and thus have no illusions on that for myself. What I am trying to do is to improve, little by little, every day.

Kyra is amazing indeed, and so skilled in repairs and repurposing of jewelry, just "golden hands"! There are also other wonderful people here, knowledgable and helpful, OBB, Ruth, Komo, Fig, KSW, Lark, and others, too (sorry if I miss someone, not intentional). But what I like here the most is the spirit of collaboration and politeness even in case of disagreement, something unique, IMO, in online discussions. I am really honoured to be accepted in this wonderful community!
