I think this might be Japanese.
It has an outer lid in the same pattern and an unglazed inner lid.
    Its about 8 inches high
The outer lid has been damaged and repaired.
I don't know which way the mark should be.

I would appreciate if someone knows what it is, where its from and how old.

    Thanks.

It's a tea caddy, absolutely typical shape.

Well I think......the big lid is to allowing the loading of tea, drugs, tobacco, and the small on to allow a small portion to be removed for instant use. Faces aren't very nice, but I like the concept.

I would think that the inner "cap" being present is unusual. I know I haven't seen a huge amount of tea caddies but I only remember seeing 1 where it was present.

It was bought by a guy who is a hoarder & likely has no idea which one of the hundreds & hundreds of totes it is in or if it is still in his possession.:rolleyes::rolleyes::grumpy:

I made him pay dearly for the shelf lot it was on & am hoping to buy it at his estate auction when he kicks the bucket. ;):smuggrin::smuggrin:

Thanks guys, I'm hoping someone comes along that can read the mark and date it.
Its from a large clearance I've just commenced, the deceased was an antique buyer and I've found quite a bit already.

I wonder if it is Chinese made for the Japanese market, or for export in general. The mark looks Chinese, and they made Japanese style ceramics.
I would guess 1940s, just a guesstimate though.

    And definitely tea caddy.

I think it is Chinese and fairly modern.

This looks like early work from what later became 'The Royal Satsuma Company', a Chinese company which made (makes) reproductions. From the styling it suggests an early version, perhaps late 1970's, so a vintage piece. When correctly identified though the value is pretty low.
