    It is not in a traditional style that I recognize. There are many modern decorative carvings being produced in Asia and Africa that blend elements of various traditional styles. I don't believe this piece has any function other than decoration.

    It looks like a modern Goth interpretation of a Sepik River Shield.The skull head's reminiscent of the style seen on a 17th-18th century gravestones.
    Cool-looks like a prop from Tim Burton's 'Beetlejuice'.
