French was suggested. Wondering where/when this bottle may be from? Not sure either stopper is an original match. 4 1/2”. C3B8C90B-EAE5-44D7-BCCE-A66F0A914119.jpeg 4FF49F72-DB4E-4076-984C-5F1C330BDF05.jpeg

I have never seen stoppers like those 2 on perfume bottles, but then again I might be wrong.

French might be a good possibility or possibly Bohemian.

@Ownedbybear - what do you think?

Bohemian seems to be entirely in the question. Though nicer some Moser examples were more similar than many I saw to mine.

I’m undecided. The shape and cut look a bit bohemian to me. I can’t quite make out the theme of the scene?

@J Dagger - maybe a close-up of the scene on the bottle might give us a clue as to its origin.

Indeed, I’ll try to get one. A man walking through what looks like an old world town/village/city with what looks like palm trees. Not sure there is enough detail to fish out an ID of the scene but if there is the folks here will be the ones to do it I’m sure.

This may be a very, very old bottle. Carafes in the late 1700's had similar stoppers.

That would be exciting! You saw it was under 5” right? When I think carafe I think big but I guess they don’t have to be by definition.

Some closeups of the scene on the bottle. The “top level” auction house put their sticker right on top of the man. Grrrrr 15A81BA3-EE74-45D4-857C-EB249A16744F.jpeg 7985865C-8C19-43C0-AC4D-2FB8A0481561.jpeg 87610538-4FAF-4BD9-AF78-AE190DE85D8D.jpeg

How grey does that glass look? The scene is very Grand Tour and orientalist, which could make it eighteenth.

Maybe for sherry or cordial that you would only serve 1 to 2 ounces per guest.

Not super grey but a little grey? Not sure if my eyes are playing tricks on me. I’ll look again in daylight. Searching 18th century gilt glass decanters/carafes some examples come up that aren’t altogether dissimilar. Mostly French and Bohemian.

That’s a possibility! I didn’t see any this size searching carafes/decanters but doesn’t mean they didn’t make them. When I searched 18th century gilt glass perfume instead of decanter/carafe I saw a few examples from India. That made me rethink the term perfume a bit. Rather than being a highly concentrated liquid like today it could have been more for a rose water type perfume. That could be an option to explain the size of this bottle. It would be quite large for the modern perfume but maybe not do something used then.

The vanity bottles did tend to be quite large in the 18th & 19th centuries compared to what we have seen over the last 100 years.

I’ll fish out McConnell’s excellent decanter bible, see if there’s any clues.
