Hello- I am new to the bard. My beautiful mother recently died. She had wonderful taste. I now have this pair of Bronze Bacchus Candelabra. She purchased them in Louisiana in 1985 from a very reputable dealer. The receipt says they are from 1820’s and I believe she paid about $900 for them. There is a small marking on both the left thighs It looks like an unfinished M with the numbers 0 2 underneath. (See pic) I can’t seem to find any information on this marking. The base is wood and has some wear and tear but looks like an easy refinish without compromising the pieces. Otherwise, they are both in very good condition. The little candle holders slip on small pins and the other pieces are held together by screws. Would love any help identifying these. Many thanks!

Sorry about your mom. It's tough when a parent passes. I know nothing, but those are pretty cool. Could be a foundry mark and possibly the 02 might refer to size or production number.

The casting of this piece leads me to think maybe not 1820. I cant really put a finger on why I think that, simply that its just not as fine as Id expect an early 19th century French piece to look.Im thinking more 1920 .But I could be wrong so wait for others.

Thanks for your response, Johnny. I am only going off of the receipt my mom had which said, 1820’s. Def could be wrong as the dealer is long deceased. My pictures aren’t the great either. Any other thoughts are appreciated have a lovely day.

Thank you for the assistance. I appreciate it! I wish I knew where to inquire or research the foundry/markings. Deep dives have been futile.

Thank you for your thoughts. They are special. They were in my house my entire life and I always loved them. They seemed so regal and glamorous. Because we grew up in Louisiana, my mother had a lot of French Provincial and Louis 14,15th furniture. She had a great eye.
