Hi all, I have just bought this quatrefoil chocolate cup and saucer, which I presume would have had a lid originally. Bought at auction, sight unseen, I didn't even know if it bore a makers mark but took a punt has it appeared to me to be very like Meissen.
However now I see the marks - I can't find anything like them - crossed swords in underglaze blue alright, but with what looks like a T between them at the top. Can anyone help identify these as genuine Meissen, or are they likely fakes? Saucer/bowl 14cm by 12cm; cup 8cm high, 10cm across handles. Painting is not the quality I would expect for Meissen, however I've seen lots on EBay purporting to be Meissen that don't look any better. Thanks in advance for your help.

Don't think it's Meissen. Those don't look like crossed swords. It's very pretty and nicely done. I haven't looked, but the T might be for Tettau?

Interesting, while looking for Tettau I found my mark it's said to be Carl-Johann Gottlob Thieme for Dresden. Will do more research Thanks

It is lovely isn't it? I was really hoping that it would be Meissen, but Dresden is good too. :)

I think it's sweet! Interested to know why you think it would have had a lid originally?

Hi Kylie, yes that was dumb of me, all my other chocolate cups have lids but of course the shaped top wouldn't have had one.

Not dumb, I often assume things based on other objects (sometimes wrongly ;) it's a natural shortcut!
