    IMG_0915.jpeg IMG_0914.jpeg IMG_0913.jpeg IMG_0912.jpeg Hello everyone,

I had to run some errands this morning, and after I had done them, I went to a small flea market in our neighborhood. Look what I found for a tenner:
An amber necklace- and earclips and some turquoise nugget earclips.
All bought from an old lady.
She told me she had travelled all around the world and she had bought the necklace in Russia.
(I also found some flemish jewelry but maybe I ll show it another time).
The amber necklace and earrings were tested with my UV lamp (white shine) so I presume its amber.
Would anyone be able to shine a light (pun intended) on its quality though?
It has some weird-looking white 'chunnels' running trough it.
Its quite big and heavy, at 109 grams total.

    Lovely set, Dessert.:) However:
White shine could be copal, so a pre-stage of amber. It is not your usual UV reaction of amber.
    But certainly a bargain.
Those are probably tiny gas bubbles that were trapped inside the resin. They can appear in these lines, almost as if they are a little gas bubble army trying to march to the surface.:hilarious:
    Ditto. Very nice.

Komokwa and AJ, thank you very much for your reply.
    Copal sounds very plausible.

Gorgeous. Sweet earrings, you don't see those much.
Didn't you have a pendant that was waiting for a top part like the one on your fingertips?

Yes, these earrings are not something I already came across much.
Sadly, the brooch you see on top won't match my pin I have laying around.
In fact, I got the brooch on top for free because the middle stone turned out to not to be a diamond, sadly. And it also has 2 tiny diamonds missing.
    Ah well, free is good.:shame:
I already have its mate that is one of my all time favorite pieces: you can hang anything from it and I love it when a jewelry piece is versatile.

Lovely pieces! You mention the amber beads are heavy, is that correct? I ordered some amber online and I literally thought when it arrived that the package was empty - it wasn't, it's just that the beads were so light. Just asking as you commented about the weight, and I had thought amber was supposed to be rather light.

    Nice haul!

Curious how we can tell that is Chinese turquoise? The clips on the back look like an older style from the 1950s plus or minus. Can we see a photo of the earrings from the top?

The earrings are 50s turquoise from the look of them, but I have my doubts of the earrings. I'd have to wonder about the necklace too. Maybe an amber composite? The Russians did that, especially to sell to tourists. Nice beads, real ones, wouldn't have had a costume clasp either as far as I know. Being an American I might not, but the Poles and others only used silver or better findings for good amber.

the way the backs are poorly glued on to what appears to be stabilized stone.

I wasn't there when they were made , so experience has to kick in..

That's what I figured they were. Not Chinese, but those earrings were common.

IMG_0936.jpeg IMG_0937.jpeg IMG_0938.jpeg Kate Q, the necklace is indeed heavy when you weigh it. It 'feels' light taking into account the dimension of the beads though.
Evelynb and Komokwa, yes, the turquoise looking earrings are poorly glued.
And the necklace has a very ugly clasp and it is on an even uglier plastic string.
No idea if these were original though.
Anyhow, I dont have much experience with turquoise/amber/copal so your thoughts are highly appreciated.

    IMG_0942.jpeg Kyratango,
Yes, the seahorse pendant is joining my JHP collection. I love his work!
My personal favorites are the three Flemish pieces and the small 18th century (I think) brooch though. IMG_0944.jpeg

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

What's a costume clasp? How is it different from other clasps? Just for my information.

Figtree...a costume clasp would in my opinion be any cheaply made clasp of non precious metal. The ones you buy at a craft shop or online Chinese shops nowadays.

Lovely finds! I like especially the Flemish (?) set - paste brooches, pin and earrings. Very exquisite work.
    What is "balkan amber"?
