Hello! I picked up this very long necklace (abt 58”) yesterday, I was drawn to its texture which I’m not sure how best to describe — soapy? rubbery but not? I guess I’m a tactile person because I was so drawn to them and how they feel. Knotting looks old and the little, clear separator beads look mildly faceted and I think are glass? Any ideas what these could be?

Thanks! I'm not sure, I wonder if the way these are strung is also having an impact on the feel of it, I don't know that I've seen a lot of ceramic disk beads strung together. I cleaned it this afternoon (mild soap and water), I may restring it and replace the little clear beads with crystals or maybe sparkly blue topaz?

I’m on a roll! ;) I gently cleaned the beads before taking apart the necklace and setting aside the tiny blue spacers (glass? something else?). I wanted to make it a bit less “sweet” so I picked up dark metal cubes to use as spacers, and visited a local art gallery where there were some amazing glass beads for sale that I thought suited. I kept the same main design element as I still love the feel of the disks together like that.

The blue beads are pretty awesome. The old stringing probably needed replacing anyway; cotton literally rots eventually.
