Machine made?

I bought a banquet sized tablecloth in excellent condition (no broken threads, bright white) that appears to be machine made. It's made with tapes that are arranged in various shapes connected by brides. The edges are round or pointed but it doesn't look like battenburg. It's slightly "stretchy" leading me to believe it's a blend. I paid $40. Would like any info you could offer as to age, worth, country of origin, etc. Did I get a good deal? Thanks!!

Thank you very much for your reply. I've taken more photos that show the end of some tapes that have frayed on the edges, the tapes that have been sewn down on the ends, and the brides. The brides have no knots but the threads that make the bride continue stitching along the edge of the tape until they meet another bride location, and continue in that manner. I see very few bride threads unattached or separated from their paths. In addition, I'm not certain which is the front and back as there seems to be some frayed tape joins on both sides. There are not many flaws on either side, so I suppose either side will work. It is a heavy, substantial piece.

The seller had actually machine washed the tablecloth!! and I had to carefully iron it flat again. That could have caused the fraying. I'm sure there are some other areas that a photo would be helpful. I can take more is you think it will help.

As for the age of the tablecloth, the lady I purchased it from was in her 60s and the tablecloth had been her mother's. She didn't seem to know much about it.

For quite some time, I have been looking for a handmade point de venise tablecloth (actually white or off-white) I could afford. This will do quite nicely, especially for $40. I'm happy!

Your lovely clear photos absolutely confirm that it is HAND ASSEMBLED. Yes, sometimes they did cut tapes on both sides. I'm surprised that that one does. You did a nice job ironing.

Should you need to launder again, I'd consider hand washing or even if you soak and let it sit in the washer (with NO agitation) and let the water drain from the tub and briefly spin it. Then spread it out on a flat surface to hand dry...finger pressing.

A Point de Venise tablecloth would be lovely, but this one is truly more durable!
