This little piece is 3" high and 2" diam at the smaller end. I'm not even sure which way up it should be. With the small end up it could have been used for matches, etc but it seems a little too big for that. But the large end appears to be a very deliberate cup shape as in a mortar and I wonder if it was used for mixing something. I'm thinking the shape is similar to what dentists use to mix their cements for fillings, or maybe something a pharmacist would use. It looks like EAPG so I'm guessing it's about 100 years old or so.
It's a bit large for a shot, an' I think the pressed decoration marks it as more of a consumer item than for professional use. That small end, 'tho, seems an enigma. What is the fluid capacity of the deep end? Is it UV reactive? It really is a nice piece, regardless of purpose...thanks!
