That's a big hunk of bone.

 

This thread was so cool to read. I'll throw a recent ivory story in for 2 cents. I visited an antique mall where I am friendly with the lady who works the register. I found a bracelet for $55 marked "whale bone." It was elephant ivory, and I took it to her telling her they could get a whopping fine for selling it. She said she knew that, and that dealers are definitely told no ivory whatsoever in the booths. She thanked me.

 

Whale bone would be just as bad if Fish and Wildlife came calling, so whoever did that was an idiot. They haven't started policing antique stores yet, but it's still not a bright idea.
