Featured Can anyone read this gold(?) mark?

It's on the outside of the band, so it probably got a little mashed. There's a piece missing from the toi et moi setting and the stone in the setting registers as rock crystal or similar. I don't think it's anything crazy, but it cost ... $1, so I won't cry too hard if the mark remains unremarked. Is it the weevil?

    Nice find evey

You know those pics where people show a close up of a couple of scratches

Well this is definitely a proper mark :)

I tried three times to get a picture and posted the two clear ones. The mark itself is a blurry mess, but it's a mark.

Well, 40x loupe eyes anyway.:D I could see something there, but couldn't read it; it's a superpower of the nearsighted.

I think the pearl got sheared off!
I don't think I've ever seen a pearl broken off quite that neatly.....

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

@evelyb30, THAT is a tough mark.....posting two very similar images, one slightly clearer than the other.....yes, seems to be two marks there, but try as I might, I'm NOT happy with either.....at first I thought I was seeing a boar's head, but not now......I THINK it could be a bird's head looking left (the larger mark), and the smaller one looks like a horse's head also facing left.....NOT a lot of difference between the two images, sorry..........

I'm used to seeing marks inside rings. Since this is outside, wondering if this could be kind of manufacturing flaw possibly.

Just my first thought -- please keep researching, does look like the ring could be gold. Do you have a way to test?

I’ve seen outside marks on older European jewelry

I suspect it was a half pearl, I’ve seen that. Looks like an eagles head and I can’t recall which country used it.

    It is a lion's head.:playful: (Great job as always @Aquitaine !)
Several Continental European countries have a lion head profile mark with the tongue sticking out.
In this case, with the oval cartouche shape, it is Spain, for .750 gold.
I have Spanish .750 gold earrings set with rock crystals, it is something they did.

I would look for a replacement Mabe pearl, it's worth it imo. I would also check the claw setting, looks like at least one isn't too good.
More recent jewellery too. The Dutch are notorious "outside markers", even on the front of brooches etc.

I kinda figured it was a French mark, but Spanish makes sense too. I can test for 18k, although the weight isn't much.
